In a league of its own, Active FRANK is a major step change in offshore pre-commissioning. With a single lift, you have a unit capable of performing conventional flooding and pigging activities with minimal vessel requirement.
Like all our chemical injection / flooding units, Kraken Subsea has again integrated a data logging system into Active FRANK.
Typically these systems monitor and record chemical flowrate, total chemicals injected, bulk water flowrate and total volume injected during the free-flooding operation.
If other parameters are required, these may be requested.
Kraken Subsea will review the recorded data and perform analysis demonstrating the system was correctly treated with chemical dosing trends being available upon request.
One of the major upgrades for the Active FRANK system is the incorporation of several subsea pumps within the unit.
Powered hydraulically by an ROV, the pumps within the unit are capable of providing a flowrate of 1,000 litres per minute at 9barg up to 4,000 litres per minute at 0.5barg.
The addition of subsea pumps allows the unit to perform pipeline flushing and pigging directly from subsea.
The units size and relative autonomy mean that only a small vessel equipped with an ROV is required to lift, install and operate the unit with no additional crew.
In real terms, it is a game changer.
RELEASE THE KRAKEN...AND YOUR VESSEL!
At its core, Active FRANK works smarter, not harder: saving time, money and reducing risk.
With one lift, Active FRANK can be installed subsea and utilise subsea hydrostatic head to push pre-installed pigs through the system. This means the majority of the pipeline FCG operation can be completed without any additional support from the vessel.
The vessel can then return, activate subsea pumps within the unit and pig the remainder of the system to ensure pig receipt.
With a dynamic upgrade to conventional operations, Active FRANK has the ability to significantly reduce required vessel size, duration and cost.
AUTONOMOUS & VARIABLE CHEMICAL INJECTION
Kraken Subsea has developed the autonomous systems onboard Active FRANK which are capable of regulating the chemicals injected into the system.
It is capable of adjusting the chemical injection rate to match the variable flowrates seen during free-flooding and pumping operations. This ensures an even distribution of chemicals throughout the system. The autonomous systems developed benefits from our extensive knowledge and experience in the pre-commissioning field.
REDUCED CREW & SPACE REQUIREMENTS
Like our other units, Active FRANK's key differentiator is that it requires no crew for most operations and only a single technician for ad-hoc maintenance and refilling for longer/multiply trips.
This combined with a large reduction in deck space required compared to traditional flooding systems means smaller vessels can be used saving our clients significant cost.

Diver & ROV Operable
Active FRANK is designed to be simple to use and be operable by both divers and ROV. It's autonomy means that once setup, it does not require further support or monitoring.
Simple Connection Systems
A simple hotstab receptacle is utilised for connecting Active FRANK to your pipeline system. At Kraken Subsea we can also supply an appropriate connection hose into your system.
Multiple chemicals can be stored ready for autonomous subsea injection at specified delivery rates.
